I pretty quickly got back to accumulating all the silly voice notes on my phone, into vocal melody’s or instrumental runs, and demoing out the first lot of new songs. Most of them felt at home on a guitar or piano with vocals, so I tried my best to withhold some ego, and do some live performances of them on the grand piano! Isolated live stuff like “Breakdown” is really tricky, because whilst I do play piano & sing, there’s something about going from limitless layering in the studio and having that comfort of production to hide behind, that felt way more safe to me!
